Alec Sims joins Granlund UK as a Senior Consultant, bringing expertise across the energy transition, heat networks, portfolio decarbonisation, and sustainability.

“My focus is on transitioning projects from scoping and feasibility to delivery through the development of robust, evidence-based business cases. I’m also fascinated by the impact of new legislation, like Heat Network Zoning, on market and industry growth”, says Alec.

Before joining Granlund, Alec worked as an Energy & Project Delivery Consultant at Arup, contributing to policy, infrastructure, and estate decarbonisation projects across various industries, including the highly regulated nuclear sector.

Earlier in his career, he worked at a small building services consultancy, delivering low-carbon solutions for residential retrofits. His hands-on expertise also includes a role at E.ON, working across district heating networks in London as a performance engineer.

Alec holds a Master of Engineering degree from the University of Leeds. He is also a certified BREEAM Infrastructure assessor and FAST practitioner.

Expanding expertise in heat networks

David Forbes joins Granlund UK as a Principal Consultant, bringing over a decade of expertise in heat networks and energy decarbonisation, with a focus on supporting the energy transition.

“I am especially interested in the correct application of heat pump technologies to be deployed within heat networks and ensuring projects move smoothly from planning to implementation”, says David.

David has a background in Mechanical Building Services design and contracting. He has been involved in District Heating since 2010, with roles in city energy master planning, district heating business development within the private sector, and as a client engineer for public sector funders of district heating projects.

David holds a degree in Environmental Engineering from Strathclyde University in Glasgow.
